Feel free to explore with different zipper tapes or throw in contrasting pulls to make your zippers even more exciting. It's all about having fun with your creativity!
How it Works
Start with a roll of zipper tape and pulls. We have Sallie Tomato #3 Nylon Coil Zipper Tape by the roll! It comes with 3 yards of zipper tape and 9 matching pulls. Available in beige with antique gold, white with nickel, and black with gunmetal. You can easily cut and sew through the nylon teeth while achieving the professional appearance of metal teeth.
Note: The Handy Zipper Jig is not compatible with YKK Zippers.
We use #3 zippers for most of our kits and projects at Sue Spargo; however, the Handy Zipper Jig has a slot for both #3 zippers as well as #5. Size #4.5 zippers will also work in the #5 slot.
Place the zipper pull in the appropriate channel with the zipper pull facing the back side of the jig. In the overhead picture, you can see how the zipper pull simply rests in the channel with the body on one side and the pull tab on the other.
Using craft scissors, cut the end of the zipper for a nice, clean edge to start with. Using the Thread Zap 2, zap the ends of the zipper tape to keep it from fraying.
Place the ends of the zipper tape into the pull with the teeth also facing the back of the jig. Insert both sides of the zipper tape at an angle, bringing them together in a V-shape into the pull. Give a little tug on both tapes at once, and your zipper pull is installed. It’s that easy.
Did you know? You have the option to add an extra pull at the opposite end of your zipper tape. This creates opposing pulls, which is super convenient!
