You’ve poured hours of love, patience, and creativity into every stitch of your quilt—but once it’s finished, do you know how to care for it?

We’ve created both a Cotton Quilt Care Guide and a Wool Quilt Care Guide, available as downloadable PDFs. They’re perfect for keeping close to your treasured quilts or tucking in with a quilt given as a gift.

Wool Snow Washing

What Is Wool Snow Washing?

Wool snow washing is a traditional method of cleaning wool using clean, fresh snow (instructions found in the above PDF). Used for generations in cold climates, it gently refreshes wool by lifting dirt and odors without soaking or stressing the fibers.

How It Works

  • Lanolin at Work: Wool’s natural lanolin repels dirt, and snow washing helps refresh this protective coating.
  • Crystal Cleaning Action: The cold, crystalline structure of fresh snow loosens dirt and breaks down surface oils.
  • Cold Deodorizing Power: Freezing temperatures reduce odors without wetting the fibers.
  • No Felting or Shrinking: Because it uses cold, dry snow instead of heat and agitation, wool fibers remain intact and won't shrink.
