Organic Applique

with Kathy Doughty

Organic Appliqué is about using simple appliqué techniques to make shapes then organising them with intent to create a fun, unique project. You will love this workshop if you have always wanted to take creative control and to simply enjoy that path! We will use appliqué paper to make leaves, flowers, stems and objects then consider elements of design for composition. Follow the sample or design with your own ideas!

Discover the joy of letting your creativity lead the way and walk away with a beautiful, improvisational appliqué piece that’s uniquely your own.

Meet the instructor!

Originally from Ohio, Kathy Doughty’s creative journey has taken her from the green grass of her Midwestern childhood to the vibrant energy of New York City and, ultimately, to Australia, where she discovered her passion for quilting. After making her first quilt in 1993, Kathy was captivated by how this art form connected her to home and simple pleasures. In 2003, she opened Material Obsession, a Sydney quilt shop that fosters creativity, experimentation, and community. Kathy shares her expertise through workshops, classes, and her writing, inspiring quilters to explore bold design, color, and technique while discovering their own unique voice in fabric.
