Sketchbook 21 by Marcia Derse from Windham Fabrics was inspired by one of Derse's small handmade books and a magical little circus that visits Whidbey Island each summer. In her words, "The patchwork pattern of Picnic Grounds reminds me of the way families and friends throw a kaleidoscope of blankets on the field where we picnic and watch the performers dazzling show."

About the designer:
Marcia Derse is an established modern fiber artist and fabric designer who has spent the last two decades creating unique hand-dyed and hand-painted fabrics. From her studio on Whidbey Island in beautiful Pacific Northwest, Marcia starts with a blank canvas; a bolt of muslin, fabric dyes, and the primary colors in silkscreen paints. Her fabric collections are harmonious groupings that represent a central idea or concept. She draws her themes from the seasons or her travels or sometimes simply a new texture found in her environment.
