It is always a stretch as an artist to collaborate with other designers and this last teaching venture was no different. I always love a challenge so my good friend Tonye Belinda Phillips and I decided to design a small round robin quilt each. We started with our own flowerpot central block then mailed it back and forth adding to each other’s until we had completed 3 more rounds. Some borders came easier than others and some were a real challenge. We then presented these ideas for the students to build on as they designed their own piece.
We taught the three day class at the lovely 5 Pines Lodge in Sisters. All our students were enthusiastic learning techniques for cotton and wool appliqué as well as making good fabric choices for design and color then adding a little stitching for texture.
It is always a treat for me to co teach with Tonye as our work is very different in many ways yet our styles really work together. We are just a great team! I love her funking houses and baskets they are fun and her use of fabrics is exceptional.
We will be teaching this class again at Santa Barbara Quilting Retreats in November 2014.
Many thanks to all the students for sharing this wonderful weekend with us. We look forward to seeing these projects as they grow. Tonye thanks for sharing your wonderful talents with me. It is at treat to work with you.
