The inspiration for this luxurious blanket comes from our no-waste mentality at Sue Spargo's. In 2018 when Woolrich closed the doors to its 170 year old mill in Woolrich, PA, we were left without a source for quality wool fabric. After months of searching, we finally found a mill in the United States that was willing to produce materials to our exact specifications. When developing our signature wool fabric with our new mill, we had to test and sample several prototypes in our dye studio. Though of the highest quality, these original prototypes did not meet Sue's standards for felted wool appliqué. These wools take color beautifully, however, in our dying process the wools never achieved a level of felting to hold a clean, crisp edge for Sue's intricate appliqué.
So, what to do with several rolls of wool that couldn't be used for appliqué? Use it for piecing!
This kit includes enough material to complete a perfect couch blanket, measuring at least 50" x 60". Each kit includes fifty 3" strips of wool (two strips each of 25 colors) - yes, we've pre-cut the strips for you! It is meant to be a fun, quick project. Our samples were finished by machine quilting, but finishing with big stitch hand quilting using Eleganza Perle Cotton is another option! The kit can be used to produce an unlimited number of designs. The creative direction is all yours--choose to plan it out in great detail, or create it with reckless spontaneity. Any way you choose, have fun with it and enjoy the process!
