Tanaka Meister's blacksmith, founded in 1955, carefully finished each pair of scissors with lacquer and gold lacquer that gives off a noble luster. You can enjoy the subtle changes in color that are unique to natural lacquer, and as the years go by, a delicious and beautiful luster appears.
The cutting scissors have a stable sharpness that cuts through fabrics with ease. Even if the steel blade loses its sharpness, it can be kept sharp by repeat sharpening.
Lacquer is by Ehara Lacquer Works, which was founded in 1970 in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, mainly used for lacquering and making Buddhist altars for temples and homes. Utlizing the experience and wisdom of lacquering Buddhist altars, Cohana repeated trial and error and color adjustments. Tame-nuri is made by applying transparent lacquer on top of vermillion lacquer to create a transparent luster and depth.
The smooth texture peculiar to lacquer fits comfortably in your hand, and the more you use it, the more you become attached to it. The cloth that wraps the scissors is a high-quality Banshu woven fabric from the same production area as the cutting scissors, and can be also used to care for the scissors. Genuine leather is used for the scissors case, and a gold and silver tassel is attached.
