The two days my Dad and I spent in the Atlas Mountains will be remembered fondly for a long time. It was fascinating. We travelled through many Berber villages some quiet isolated nestled on the steep sides of the mountain range. There was also quiet a lot of agriculture especially apple orchards which were being harvested while we were there. We stayed in a Trekkers lodge that was only accessible by hiking up a pretty steep slope. Donkeys are used to haul everything from our suitcases to all there own daily supplies. We had a giggle as they refer to the donkey as there cars.
It was really hard to capture the sheer beauty of the mountains in a few photos but I hope you can imagine what a special place this was.

Two days in Marrakech

Saturday, October 26th, 2013

Marrakech is south of Casablanca and very different. The buildings were earth tones rather than white like Fes. Around the city was an oasis so the vegetation was vert different as well as being a little drier. Hope you enjoy my pictures.

Fes was an intriguing city. I was taken by the color and craftsmanship of amazing handmade items we found in the Old Medina. The ancient tannery, great leather work, weaving, embroidery, tile and metal work.

Morocco – Casablanca to Fes

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

My dad and I spent 10 wonderful days in Morocco vacationing. We choose an itinerary through Kensington Tours which included a personnel guide and driver. It worked out really well as we were able to experience the best that each city had to offer. Our driver Said was excellent along with our guide Agmed who was very knowledgable. We were picked up in Casablanca at the airport having flown from Rome we then spent the night at the hotel and then went on to Fes for a couple of days. My first impressions of this intriguing county was amazing color, pattern and unique architecture. I will be blogging our adventure over the next few days

Show and Tell – Orvieto, Italy

Saturday, October 19th, 2013

It has been a long time since I have had Internet access. I am home from our amazing trip so for the next few days will be sharing the end of our Italy trip and then the amazing sights from Morocco.

The little quilt pieces each of the students designed in Italy were so individual and colorful. We had a lovely time creating and stitching mixed in with a few wonderful Italian treats. Kristi and Bill Steiner who put these trips together and delightful and really share their love of Italy with all. If you are looking for a little adventure in 2014 I will be returning to teach in May.

Day 4 Orvieto, Italy

Friday, October 4th, 2013

We had a wonderful day stitching, visiting the market and Palazone Vineyard. We all bought different fresh food items at the market and had a wonderful spread for lunch a little more stitching then went to the vineyard for the late afternoon. They were finishing up the harvest so we experienced the bringing in of the grapes and the first pressing. We then sampled wines looking over the valley towards the rock of Orvieto.

More stitching today

I have just returned for the third year to Orvieto to teach for Kristi and Bill Steiner who own Adventures in Italy. I feel so fortunate to be a part of this wonderful program. I have 12 creative students from Ireland, France, Australia and North America. We spent the first day getting acquainted with the town and finding inspiration for our projects. We also visited the Duomo, learnt many things about pairing wine with food and enjoyed a group dinner.
