I have just spent 10 amazing days in Ireland with my dad. We first arrived in Dublin and were met by Angela Cotter. I met Angela in Orvieto, Italy two years ago when she attended my week long class there. She invited me to teach a class in her home here in Dublin. I had a lovely two days teaching embellished circles to 15 of Angela’s friends. We then flew down to Kerry for 5 unforgettable days. The weather has been magnificent only a couple of hours of drizzle the whole time we have been here.
The land here is so lush and unbelievably beautiful. We have been so spoilt by Angela and her friends. What a wonderful start to our three country visit.
We leave early tomorrow for Italy for our next adventure.
Life is good! So much inspiration.

Classes in Calgary Canada

Monday, September 16th, 2013

I taught four amazing classes at ‘Out of Hand’ in Calgary. Two of them were new classes, along with an embellished Tree class and 2 days of studio where each student brought any of my projects to work on. The work here is exceptional and very creative. I feel privileged to be a part of the annual schedule here at Out of Hand.

The success if this store is due to Deirdre’s 100% dedication to her clients, nothing is to big or small for her to deal with. Not only does she work, purchase and teach at the store but her handwork and knowledge is outstanding. I now know what it takes to have a very successful fabric store, it is truly many hours of true dedication. It is fabulous to see such energy and enthusiasm for something you love.

This enthusiasm is contagious so the students have the same energy. Happy to try anything while playing with color and texture. Great pieces were created using some of my new techniques and fibers.

I can not wait to return in September 2014. I believe all classes are full already!

Thanks Dee for taking such good care of me.

Take care of yourself

Student Work – Out of Hand – Calgary Canada

Sunday, September 15th, 2013

I returned home yesterday from 9 wonderful days of teaching for my dear friend Deirdre who owns ‘Out of Hand’ in Calgary. I have taught here for a number of years now and have made many lovely friendships. This year was exceptional as many of my students returned with their finished pieces to share. I have decided to do two posts the first about previous class pieces then tomorrow I will post about the 4 new classes.

Deirdre has an amazing store filled with all the fibers and trims I love to use.  Needless to say each student has a large stash of luscious embellishments which you can see they have used on their lovely pieces.

Deirdre and Pam gave me permission to share the lovely pillow Pam made for a class she will be teaching in the fall. It is made from our Christmas line of ribbons by Renaissance Ribbons. I love that she used Dupioni Silk as a backing it made the pillow a little more classy.

It is a treat to return to ‘Out of Hand’ each year as I have seen how each students work has evolved and it is fun to be able to teach more challenging classes. I can’t wait to see what each student brings to share next year.

Quilters Studio – Newbury Park CA

Monday, September 9th, 2013

It was great to spent three full days teaching stitches. A few of the students at Quilters Studio owned by Eileen were new to embroidery so we started with the basics and then went on to do more challenging stitches. My emphasis was having fun with the textures of the fibers and also playing with the stitches. It was great to see each student challenge themselves and then sharing their work with others.

They have a wool stitch group at the store and it was wonderful to see all their projects hanging on the wall. Eileen has done a super job keeping the creativity flowing.

Buggy Barn – Spokane WA

Monday, September 2nd, 2013

I was fortunate to teach 4 days of stitching at the Buggy Barn Quilt Show this year in Spokane WA. All the students worked on embellishing circles with great threads. I also taught with Pam Boda, Bonnie Sullivan and Kathy Schmidt. It was great to get to know them and spend a little fun time together. I really enjoy this time of the year in WA the wheat fields stretch for miles and were golden yellow against the blue sky. Pam and Janet who own Buggy Barn Quilt Shop are delightful and made the visit even more special.

My family also lives in Spokane so I spent 4 days with them before traveling to Los Angeles, CA. We had a lovely time together doing a little shopping, sewing, working on a new proposal and visiting Green Bluff to pick fruit and vegetables.

I am not sure where this year is going but it sure has been full of new experiences.
